Though Zimmer isn't a practicing scientist persay, he's as knowledgeable as anyone. I should also mention that he is <a href="http://twitter.com/carlzimmer" rel="nofollow">active on Twitter</a>, as are <a href="http://www.sciencebase.com/science-blog/100-scientific-twitter-friends" rel="nofollow">several hundreds of other scientists</a>. The conversation there is, of course, not quite so deep as that we might get on a blog, but it's still nice to see scientists leveraging technology to engage with the public and each other.
