The over-medication of "ADD" overlaps with the overspecialization problem as well. Luckily (or perhaps just idealistically given the company I keep), there seems to be a growing opposition to both right now.

Fantastic piece. This really adds another piece to my ever growing picture of how cultures, states, and authorities in general grow and exercise their influence.

This also is perhaps the most persuasive evidence I've seen along a line of thought I'll categorize as the "embrace ADD" movement, not that you necessarily meant for it to be so. One of the lines of thought from this group is that ADD is a natural response to the lack of stimulation our environment provides us with. Most people stifle their ADD tendencies and those who can't get medicated. I don't think that ADD is by any means good in all senses, or that Ritalin is part of some plot by corporate masterminds to turn us into mindless drones; I do, however, think that the issue of ADD needs to be readdressed in the form of a cost-benefit analysis, as opposed to as cost analysis, because it certainly would seem to aid one in abandoning trained attention.

Again, thanks for the thoughts. Keep them coming.
